A telenovela is a genre of melodramatic television series, with its central themes focusing on interpersonal relationships, solving complex life situations, and problems. Most are dramatic, sometimes comedic. Our telenovela is a condensed form of a soap opera, where each episode flickers like an unspoken prompt, observing us in those moments that mysteriously evade the drama. Why is it so difficult to cook by a recipe? Who chose the theme that’s making me uncomfortable? What flavor does the collective have? Why do I have to take on a role I don’t understand? And how will we ultimately figure out what we spent the evening doing today? A group is a bunch of people who want to be together, but it doesn’t always go smoothly. It is said that keeping a group together is an art. The group dynamics are constantly in play—a set of predictable and unpredictable joys and conflicts. Loosen, push, loosen. The charm of these experiences lies in the fact that we are pulled in, we are inside, and we never have distance. Expose the group to a situation where they have to create an exhibition. The group realizes that they have nothing honest to exhibit. They have no time. They have no focus. They have no money. They have no ambitions. They have doubts. They are under pressure. All of this belongs to the telenovela. After all, we want to exhibit relationships.
Five distinct personalities accept the challenge: to create an exhibition that leaves a mark. It was meant to be a collaboration, but chaos arrived instead.
“Do you seriously want to call it Exhibition as Punishment?”
Ambitions, confusion, and ideas turn the gallery into a battlefield. They decide to wait. Each has their own vision, but no one has a plan.
“I repeat, I see the most overlap on Thursday at 6 PM.”
Family, work, motivation, boredom.
“Sorry for whining and not being constructive.”
Who can handle the pressure, and who will crack?
‘Entertain Us’ has a 3:1 vote. Honza didn’t vote. – Got a better name? – Nope, still stuck on the punishment thing.”
Can they come together to create something greater than their individual struggles, or will their dream turn into a nightmare? Drama, group dynamics, and fragments of hope — welcome to a world where every decision hurts.
This is Entertain Us!
We are a transdisciplinary research group called Transfer. Among our members are artists, therapists, parents, students, scientists, and educators. We are of different ages and at various stages of life. Our central theme is contact, which we explore from both therapeutic and artistic perspectives. We see vulnerability and closeness as a new survival strategy.
In autumn 2024, the five of us held a series of gatherings at Olga space, culminating in an exhibition. These meetings focused on mapping what it means to create an exhibition collectively.
