It does not discuss how to become a gentle saint. It is based on the idea that we can influence something based on a relationship or similarity to it. Whatever one does to another entity (being or object) affects whoever has been in contact with it in equal measure. That person is no different from the object of its interest. Such indirect relationship allows us to go through the same experience as if we ourselves were its protagonists.
