A stripe sewn together, two rows of crosses that meet in the middle, approximately. We embroider against each other, towards each other, together. All these three directions of our relationship are present and unfolding at the same time. A piece of cloth is a border that divides and unites us.
Our common thing (embroidery) thematizes the boundary between act and state - the act of saying goodbye turns into a permanent state and pushes out the possibility of mutual connection. All effort collapses into itself and becomes unavailable. We defy it with a mutual affection that spans from meeting to meeting.
with Seiko Hihara (Seiko Hihara 日原聖子)
We are from Kawasaki and from Pardubice. We have known each other for a long time, from Prague, from AVU. We have been working together since 2022, when we started with drawings of crosses - a joint workshop, a polemic over spaces where apparently "nothing happens". When we met last time, about a year ago, while we were talking, we were embroidering a strip of fabric ˗ each on one side until we meet. This moment is stuck in us and we display it as we say goodbye again.
We are united by the need for cooperation and an interest in the creative process as a process of initiation, the driving force of interpersonal relationships. We both use our own medium of drawing and various forms of participation in our joint practice. It uncovers what we find in the material and is about relationships, participation, confidentiality and futility.
